What is the difference between Black Pepper and White Pepper? “Spices” by Sapna Anand X Hexa Food

Have you ever wondered what is the difference between white peppercorns and black peppercorns? Where do they come from? Do they come from the same plant? Well, here it is, white pepper comes from the same bush as black pepper.

White pepper is picked when it is fully ripe, soaked in water for about ten days, which leads to fermentation. The skin is then removed which exposes the white part of the pepper.

Black peppercorn with the skin on has a different chemical composition and has oil that makes it stronger in flavor and spicier.

Whereas the white peppercorns with the skin removed become subtle and less spicy. White pepper is commonly used in Asian cooking especially in stir-fries or soups.

If you are looking for a mild peppery kick, white pepper is a good choice
